Homeoffice and future Conferences

Since one month, INRIA is closed and we work from home. The current situation is difficult due to the lack of personal contact to my supervisor and fellow researchers, but also due to some technical problems, which were fixed luckily. We stay in touch via video conferencing systems and make the best out of the situation. I intend to participate in two conferences in the upcoming months: ISSAC  in Greece and ICMS  in Germany. The subject of both conferences is related to applications of computer algebra and the talks will be given online. I am looking forward to these events.

PhD seminars at Inria

Together with Lorenzo Baldi , I visited this weeks PhD seminar at Inria. This event, which takes place frequently, gives PhD students the opportunity to attend talks fit for early stage researchers, as well as to exchange experiences and ideas. It seems to be a great opportunity to promote, connect and learn more about other research fields. The talk given in this week addressed the topic of presenting scientific results and research work in an appealing manner. I could pick up some useful advice and look forward to the next seminar.

Welcome.

This blog is part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network POEMA . Let me introduce myself: I am Tobias Metzlaff, doctoral researcher at INRIA Méditerranée , ESR 10 of the POEMA network and M.Sc. graduate from RWTH Aachen University . The first weeks of my PhD have passed and I feel very welcomed by the fellow researchers of INRIA. Although from several different fields, we all strive for the same goal: inventer le monde numérique! Therefore, I am happy to be given the opportunity to be part of both, the European network and the research center's team Aromath . Together with my supervisor, Evelyne Hubert , we will explore the applications of moment methods to polynomial optimization with techniques from group theory, computational algebra and representation theory. This topic combines several fields from pure and applied mathematics and I am sure, we will discover new, fascinating results. Discussions with other researchers are essential for a mathematicia...
